The 6th edition of the Għajn Open Weekend concluded with great success on the 13th and 14th of September, welcoming over 700 visitors to the Għajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre. Organised by the Energy and Water Agency (EWA), with the support of several partners, this year’s event was held under the theme “The Fairly Hydrated Knight” and offered a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere.

This activity forms part of Action C4 of the LIFE-IP RBMP Project, a major initiative led by EWA. Action C4 aims to develop and implement a water educational programme targeted specifically—but not exclusively—at the younger generations of the Maltese Islands, including school children and the corporate sector. The objective of this programme is to raise awareness about the scarcity of natural water resources in Malta and to promote water conservation among young people and the general public.

Children were greeted with a special knight-themed participation token and enjoyed a variety of interactive activities, including sandboxes, virtual games, painting, crafts workshops, and aqua storytelling sessions. Families explored the Centre through guided tours, learning practical tips on energy and water conservation, as well as discovering the Centre’s history and Malta’s sustainable water management practices.

The weekend also featured theatrical performances, mascot encounters with Zoe and Drago, and the much-anticipated Historical Reenactment Exhibition by Show of Arms Malta, allowing visitors to experience Malta’s rich water heritage in an engaging way.

With record attendance and enthusiastic feedback, the 2025 Għajn Open Weekend once again demonstrated the Centre’s vital role as a hub for environmental education and community engagement. The Energy and Water Agency looks forward to building on this success and welcoming even more visitors to future events, as part of its ongoing commitment through the LIFE-IP RBMP Project.
