The Energy and Water Agency is currently undertaking an INTERREG MED project called INCIRCLE which focuses on the peculiar needs of islands and low-density areas. The IN-CIRCLE project tailors policies that address mobility, energy efficiency, and the use of limited resources such as water and waste production. INCIRCLE aims to support insular and scarcely inhabited MED areas to meet the increasing environmental challenges caused by tourists' activities by promoting the application of circular economy principles in the tourism sector.
The project's objectives are mainly:
- Build on already existing knowledge
- Test and Adapt already developed solutions
- Adopt a common set of circularity indicators
- Strengthen the capacity of policy-makers and tourist stakeholders
- Transfer and Capatilise gained knowledge in new MED regions
