The  LIFE Integrated Project supports the implementation of Malta’s 2nd River Basin Management Plan through the undertaking of several measures aimed at optimising the use of water resources in the Maltese Islands.  Action C.4 under this project focuses on educational activities promoting the conservation of water resources.

These activities include an annual call for project initiatives to be undertaken in schools to promote the better use of water resources.  These project initiatives must include an educational dimension aimed at ensuring the active participation of students in the development and implementation of the initiative.  This in order to increase awareness in students of the need to optimise the use water in the Maltese islands.

This third call for projects, similar to last couple of years, will focus on supporting water conservation educational activities in schools.  The themes for this year’s projects are Rainwater Harvesting and Water Conservation the projects may tackle one or both of these themes. The projects need to be identified by the students and the activities evnsiaged as part of the project need to be undertaken in the schools and/or their immediate surroundings.  A comprehensive approach, and therefore involving the whole school, must be applied for the activities concerning this year’s theme.  The involvement of students both during the preparation and the implemenation of the project is a must.  Due consideration will be given to schools that choose projects reaching a wider audience, including parents and the school neighbouring community.

The third call for projects will finance (at least) 10 projects, with a grant of up to Eur1,000 each.  Applications need to be submitted to the Energy and Water Agency by the 15th November on water-energywateragency@gov.mt.  The results of the call will be communicated by end-November 2019.  The selected activities need to be implemented by the end of the 2019 - 2020 scholastic year.

All expenses undertaken for the purpose of the undertaking of these activities need to respect public procurement regulations.  Approved eligible expenses will be disbursed by the Energy and Water Agency.
