What’s on offer this year?

The Għajn Open Weekend 2025 promises two exciting days packed with interactive, family-friendly activities. Children can explore their creativity through craft and painting workshops and engage in a range of interactive games and experiences.

The event will also feature live theatrical performances and visits from the beloved Għajn mascots, Drago and Zoe. Aligned with this year’s theme, The Fairly Hydrated Knight, we are pleased to present a historical show of arms and a captivating reenactment on Saturday, designed for family enjoyment. These activities encourage children to build confidence, spark imagination, and enjoy themselves—all while learning practical water conservation and easy water-saving tips.

Each year, more than 600 visitors come to the Open Weekend eager to explore the Centre’s hands-on exhibits centered on energy and water sustainability. This year will be no different, promising an engaging programme that appeals to the whole family.

The Centre’s Rich Heritage

Have you ever wondered what ‘Għajn’ means? In Maltese, it refers to a natural spring or water source—reflecting the Centre’s mission to champion water conservation and sustainable management. Nestled in Rabat, a town historically recognized for its freshwater springs, the Għajn Centre is located on a site that once served as a vital water source and community hub.

A History of Education and Awareness

Since opening its doors in April 2017, the Għajn Centre has been at the forefront of promoting water conservation and responsible water management. For over eight years, it has provided interactive educational programmes for primary and secondary students. Through workshops, guided tours, and hands-on activities, young visitors gain a deep appreciation for water’s value and sustainability principles.
