The LIFE IP has been developed to provide coordinated support towards the comprehensive achievement of the implementation of Malta’s 2nd River Basin Management Plan (RBMP), and the achievement of the environmental objectives of the Water Framework Directive.

A set of preparatory actions necessary for supporting the long-term implementation of the LIFE IP’s actions have taken place over the first two years of the project. The video below provides an overview of the work carried out to make this happen whilst also shedding light on the concrete actions that will be implemented in the upcoming phases of the LIFE IP.

The numerous actions being implemented through this LIFE Integrated Project focus on the optimization of water demand (increasing awareness and efficiency in use), supporting the development of sustainable use conditions for a diverse range of water resources, supporting increased efficiency in the national water cycle through the increased uptake of water and wastewater re-use, and optimizing the management and protection of surface and coastal water bodies.

The LIFE IP is being implemented by eight government entities, who are also involved in the implementation of Malta’s 2nd River Basin Management Plan (RBMP).  The eight stakeholders are the Energy and Water Agency (lead beneficiary), Environment and Resources Authority, Parks Malta, Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, Ministry for Gozo, Ministry for Energy and Water Management, University of Malta, and the Water Services Corporation. These project beneficiaries are also supporting the Inter-Ministerial Coordination Committee established in Malta for the optimised implementation of the 2nd RBMP and its Programme of Measures (POM).  These project beneficiaries are coordinating the implementation of specific actions within the LIFE IP directly related to their area of competence.
