The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) kicked off its participation at the Malta Book Festival with a vibrant and engaging first reading session yesterday, welcoming families and young readers to a world of fun, learning, and environmental awareness.

Children were delighted to receive free books and cuddly Osbert the frog soft toys, bringing smiles and excitement to the sessions. Osbert, the beloved character who lives at Chadwick Lakes, took centre stage in stories that blend nature appreciation with important lessons on sustainability.

Throughout the day, three captivating sessions featured tales such as Osbert and Friends and Zoe and the Dragon, which explored the water cycle and Maltese biodiversity. Topics included the unique speckled frog—found only in Malta—alongside discussions on local ecosystems, endangered species, and the impact of human activity on Chadwick Lakes. Children learned how releasing ducks into the lakes can disrupt the natural balance, as frogs become prey and invasive species like crayfish pose further threats.

The sessions also introduced other educational titles including Kavallier Għatxan, L-Eroj tal-ilma, A Journey with the Energetic Four: The Renewables, and Luna u l-Enerġetika: Il-Vapur Sostenibbli. Each story was crafted to inspire curiosity and responsibility towards energy and water conservation.

Reading sessions continue today and tomorrow—don’t miss the chance to join Osbert and his friends on their adventures and discover how small actions can make a big difference for our environment.
