Action C.13: Restoration of one of the coastal wetlands
Concrete action
OBJECTIVE
This action will seek the restoration of an important costal wetland Il-Ballut ta’ Marsaxlokk. This measure will address the assessment and restoration of the hydro morphological elements pertaining to the coastal wetland, through water quality analysis, the study of current hydrological regimes and associated coastal erosion processes, thereby enabling the identification of the possible interventions and alternative solutions targeting the restoration of coastal wetlands.

The main expected result from this action is the elaboration and implementation of interventions targeting the restoration of hydrographical regime of the coastal wetland, the reduction in coastal erosion, and assessment of water quality in line with the requirements of the Habitats Directive and Water Framework Directive. This Action should hence result in an improvement in the status of habitats and species dependent on the wetland ecosystem, and increase in the resilience of the coastal wetland in question.
